All the car parks just about bring you out on to the promenade, so there's no issue with having to lug all your gear for miles before reaching a place to base yourself. Sandy or Stony beach?

Brilliant family beach. Lots of dunes meaning privacy and a bit of shelter. You need at windbreaker though! Even when 23degrees! We used the 'Beach Car park' which was near the hotel and was £5 (cash) for the day. Got there about 9.15 and there was plenty of space, right by the beach and public loos.
